Aug 182011Texas Tax Free Weekend: Retail Coupon Roundup

This weekend (8/19-21) is the annual tax free holiday in Texas exempting shoppers from state and local taxes. Items that are tax free include most clothing, school supplies and footwear priced under $100. That means you’ll save 8.25% on school supplies, back packs, diapers, baby clothes, swimsuits, t-shirts, shorts, shoes…the list goes on and on.

Here are a few tips to make this weekend successful:

1. Set a Budget and Stick to It – Figure out how much you can afford to spend and don’t overdo it.

2. Take Inventory of Needs – Shop for necessities first. If your budget allows, add in some fun things the kids want. But be sure you grab the important things first.

3. Check Refund Policies – Make sure your items can be returned or exchanged. This is especially important if you don’t have your kids with you.

4. Shop Early – Shop early in the morning to beat the crowds.

5. Avoid the Mall - If you only need to go to one or two stores, see if they have any free standing locations near you. Many JCPenny, Old Navy and similar stores have non-mall locations that may not be as crowded.

And of course, SHOP WITH COUPONS!!! Here are quite a few Retail Coupons to help keep your costs even lower.

If you find a coupon I left off, please feel free to leave a comment. A big thanks to Surviving the Stores for the list of coupons.

Are you headed out this weekend? Or will you avoid the mall at all costs?
