I get asked frequently why I write about saving money. I’m sure people ask you why you use coupons. I believe that saving money is important. It’s an idea that stretches far beyond a monthly budget or vacation fund. Saving money and living within or below your means is lifestyle change that impacts your whole life. A change that more Americans need to make.
That’s why I am so excited to announce that I have teamed up with Savings.com and the other 2011 Deal Pros to present The Savings Pledge. We are challenging America to save $1 billion over the next year and we want you to help us reach that goal. Whether you choose to save $5 per week or $500, every bit will help us reach the $1 billion mark.
You can take the Savings Pledge on my Facebook Page by clicking on the Savings Pledge link in the sidebar. You’ll also find a button like the one at the top of this post, here on Saving with Shellie. Click to take the pledge too.
When you take the Savings Pledge you get to specify the amount of money you plan to save each week. Then leave a comment here to let me know what you plan to do with your savings. Use it to pay down debt? Start an emergency fund? Donate it to your favorite charity?
I will be sharing lots of tip to help you accomplish your savings goal over the next few weeks. The 2011 Savings.com Deal Pros will be working together to challenge our readers to save more and I can’t wait to see how well everyone does!
How much did you pledge to save? I said $100 per week. So far I’ve saved $62.87.

I pledged $100 also, though some weeks will be more, like this week. I saved $238.84 this week (Safeway and Walgreens)! Hawaii is expensive so I have to work hard to save!
