My goal for 2009 is to only spend $40 per week at the grocery store and to use that extra savings to grow our emergency fund to six months worth of living expenses.
For 4 weeks in May I spent $190.83 versus a budget of $189.40 ($40 x 4 + $29.40 overage from April). That means I need to subtract $1.43 from my June budget.
Each week you see I list how much I save with coupons. I added that to my spreadsheet so I can see how much I save over a month or year with coupons. In May, I saved $101.09 with coupons and year to date I’ve saved $1164.79. That’s just manufacturer coupons – not Extra Bucks.
So far we have 34% of our goal of 6 months of living expenses. We had a bunch of unexpected expenses this month so we didn’t get to save as much this month as I would have liked.
That’s my progress. How are you doing with your goals?

That’s great you have been able to save so much toward your goal. I’m lucky in that we have no budget really for anything, so the grocery savings in more a game than anything else. But I am encouraging more people to save using coupons. Why not??
Awesome job!
I just finished April’s budget. So I don’t have an update. It’s been a crazy couple months around here.
Hello. Do you guys eat for the week on what you buy? I buy some gluten free and organic items and can’t seem to come anywhere near that. Any advise?
