I know many of you readers shop at HEB. I get emails all the time asking why I don’t do HEB matchups. To be honest, I don’t think HEB is all that coupon friendly and I can often find better deals with double coupons and a sale at Randalls.
I do pop in HEB every week or so to get produce and do a quick check of the aisles to make sure I’m not missing something. If you follow me on Facebook, I usually post deals I find on the fan page. Most recently I got Hill Country Fare baby wipes for $.25 and Casacadian Farm Granola for $1.48.
I know some of you Texas shoppers only have one option for grocery shopping and that is HEB. You’ll be pleased to know, HEB’s coupon policy is now available online. If your HEB constantly gives you trouble about using coupons, I would print it out and carry it with you when you shop. It might help you be more successful using coupons at HEB.
(Thanks Ira!)

I agree — HEB is the WORST. Plus, in my small town, it’s an HEB Pantry. It’s small, dirty, the produce is terrible, and the milk is often about to expire. So annoying.
I rarely shop HEB, but this week they have:
$1 for Nesquik Syrup – Use $1/2 from 5/2SS and get them for .50ea
$3 for 2 Oscar Meyer Lunch Meat – Use $1/2 Blinkie or $1/2 from 5/16SS makes them $1ea
Also, Snowcrab legs for $2.98lb
I am from Houston, TX. HEB coupon policy is absolutly horrrible. First, they just don’t take internet coupons even from thier own web site, they say very rudly that thier scaner doesn’t read them. What they do is clear case of false advertising, and I hope to find a lawyer to take this case ( I have every case of coupon rejection documented). I also want to make this store famous for what they did to me. I called customer service, they just ignore me.
It is pointless to refer to thier coupon policy. It basicaly states they they wouldn’t take any coupon they don’t like.
I never shop HEB. Then only thing I do there is the fresh or free:) I know lots of people here like HEB but they don’t necessarily use coupons. I prefer Randalls or Target too, because of the double and stackable coupons!! I have tried to use coupons at HEB before and I always print my coupons in just B&W and they NEVER accept them :-\
I shop at HEB for a majority of my groceries. It’s the only grocery store in our area, other than Wal-Mart, and I dislike the Wal-Mart where I live because it smells and half the time they don’t have what I need. I’ve never had a problem with HEB accepting coupons, either from the newspaper or printed. I’ve shopped at Randall’s and found that most of the time, even with triple coupons, HEB ends up being cheaper.
My husband has kindly offered to run to HEB for me from now on because everytime I go, I get so frustrated. I’ve had problems with them taking coupons (I had a coupon for a free item that was mailed to me by the manufacturer and they said it was fraudulent because it had the word “free”). I’ve also gone to take advantage of the in-store coupons and they were nowhere to be found. Annoying.
If there is not an in-store coupon on the shelf there is usually a place near the bathrooms or the front of the store that has all the in-store coupons also if you can not find one, just tell the cashier when you check out and she/he can get one from the CSM/manager. I love HEB and shop at HEB as often as I can, we live 30 mins away from one now
Also any problems that you ever have at HEB contact the Corp Office, located in San Antonio TX. Only contact them! (210-938-8000 — google searched)

I’ve never ::knocking on wood:: had a problem using coupons at HEB. I shop there multiple times per week. I find they are waaaay more coupon friendly than either Walmart or Target. I dread checking out at both of those places with coupons even armed with a coupon policy.
I totally agree that HEB is the WORST!!! They only let us use their “yellow” coupons. I try to be loyal with the stores that are kind & coupon friendly, even with an HEB Plus just 2 blocks away from my home, I rather drive & go to Randall’s that BTW it’s super coupon friendly and I had no issues with IP coupons.
What I think we can do we should notify vendor every time his coupon being rejected by HEB, so the vendor would feel like he is loosing money twice: first time when he pays to coupons.com to create coupon for them and second when given discount doesn’t increase sale volume and the food item expires. So the vendor would put more presure on HEB or stop doing business with them. We also should sue HEB for our wasted ink and paper, which is also not free.
Went to HEB last week to use my Free Nabisco cookies with Milk coupon and was told they will not accept any FREE item coupon or any coupon with a dollar amount over $5.00. I also agree Randalls is much better than HEB! They only time I shop HEB is for their meal deals occasionally.
This is good to know. I just read the coupon policy since I will be moving back to Austin soon after being gone for 6 years. When I lived there I primarily shopped at H.E.B. WOW…that’s some policy.
It’s been hit and miss with me at HEB. I live in a college town and it seemed that the college girls were more apt to accept and force through all coupons. But then yesterday I had a guy that did them – not a problem at all. I think it’s all in the clerk. The more experienced ones, that know how to work the machines are more apt to push them through and the less experienced who have to call for a CSM – well the CSM won’t allow. But my option is HEB or Wal-Mart and I absolutely detest going to Wal-Mart.
I Never shop at HEB. I prefer to use Walmart because they never give me any hassel about any coupons I have. HEB has a horrible policy and they don’t follow it anyways. What HEB likes, HEB takes.
I’m so frustrated with HEB too on their coupons policy. As Lauren mentioned about being frustrated, I feel the same way too after leaving.
It seems HEB policy changes according to the store director because first I was told if the coupon didn’t scan, it was not allowed. Sure, makes sense. Then now I’m being told that even if it gets scanned, I have to bring the whole sheet where the coupon was printed for it to be valid. Sheesh!
I am sorry to hear these comments. HEB has actually changed the coupon policy to INCLUDE internet coupons that do not scan. Although we do not double or triple coupons we accept ALL manufacturer’s coupons. The only time I EVER deny a coupon is when it is a free internet coupon that is listed on cents-off.com as being illegitimate (not issued by the manufacturer). I encourage all shoppers to ask for a manager if their coupon is denied by the checker. We often even accept coupons for the wrong product to please the customer. I am from a San Antonio store and our policy here is SOLID – we are here to IMPROVE your experience, not ruin it. PLEASE ask for a manager if you are having an issue as some checkers are merely trying to protect themselves – we can authorize a lot more than they can.
I came across this post when I was looking for some way to get HEB to take my IP coupons. I’m glad that I’m not the only person who has problems getting them to take coupons that wont scan. I tried to use a Beech-Nut coupon that I printed and they would not take it so I wrote to the Beech-Nut company about it and they assured me that they will reimburse the store for the coupon. When I emailed HEB about it they just sent me a reply with their coupon policy in it even after I stated that I had read and understood the policy. I never have a problem when I got to Target and I’m originally from Idaho and never had a problem at any of the stores there.
Yesterday I shopped at HEB for some groceries I had coupons for. On the Southernsavers.com HEB ad this week for 12/14 they have listed Country Fare Orange Juice 2.50 reg 2.90 and it wasn’t listed on-sale but legit online. The cashier asked if it was in their paper. I didn’t ‘check’ their paper I went from southern savers. In the end, I was frustrated and didn’t get it but next time I plan on printing the list out to verify. They are nice with the printed coupons even though they don’t scan right away but the lady told me yesterday they’re not allowed to ‘double’ coupon which she agreed saves more money even though I have double coupon before they have just taken it. I miss Kroger and Publix. Publix has the best coupon policy out grocery stores and I just learned couponing!
Just found your site. Did the meal deal yesterday with the prime rib. Awesome.
Just letting you know that the link you gave for their coupon policy is GONE!
Heb Is the worst! I drive Miles from home once a month to shop where I can save, save , save. In my small town there is only Heb and it really does suck, plus the people whom work there are not Kind at all. I’d rather drive miles and shop at a store that appreciates me!
With HEB, I think it really depends on the store and management. I drive past 2 other HEBs to shop at the one I do. I have never had a problem with any type of coupon use there.
The quality of the meat and produce at the Walmarts in my town are so low, the produce goes bad so quickly, I can’t feed it to my family.
