At our house I do everything I can to go green. I use the special lightbulbs, recycle everything I can and take my own green bags to the store. But I always feel funny peeling the plastic bags off the roll when buying produce.
I’ve been looking for an alternative but always run into problems. Usually the problem is that one green produce bag is about $3. Sometimes I’ll find one for about $1 but it seems too heavy and would cause my produce to weigh significantly more. And you know I don’t like paying more that I have to!
But today, I found some. They’re called Tidy Totes. They come in a package of 4 and are small, neon green, mesh, drawstring totebags. The bags are large enough to fit lettuce, celery and other bulky items and they’re sturdy enough to hold 3lbs of apples. When they get a little dingy you can throw them in the washer on the gentle cycle.
The only downside is that they are drawstring so the long white string gets in the way a little and can get caught in your shopping basket. I solved this problem by looping the string around the cinched part of the bag and just tucking it in. This kept the strings out of the way and kept them from getting tangled.
Now here’s the best part: I found them for $1 a package. That’s $.25 per bag! Much cheaper than any of the ones I’ve found previously. Plus in the long run they’re cheaper and much more environmentally friendly than the plastic produce bags.
Want some? I found mine on the aisle with the dustpans at Dollar Tree. Go HERE to find a Dollar Tree near you or you can get them off Amazon HERE for $1.50.
Happy Shopping!

Great find! I’m gonna get myself some.
I’ve really been wanting some of these too! I’ve been reusing the plastic ones from the store and feel really strange carrying them back in to reuse! lol I hope they have them at my local dollar tree store – if not there is one 15 minutes up the highway.
