For those of you new to shopping at Safeway (Carrs, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Safeway, and Vons), here is a brief run down of their coupon policy.
Do I Need the Loyalty Card?
Yes. In order to get all the promotions and use coupons, you will need to swipe your Safeway Club card on every transaction. You can get one of these at Customer Service.
What Kind of Coupons Does Safeway Accept?
Safeway accepts manufacturer coupons as well as store coupons. Both Sunday coupon insert coupons and Internet printable coupon are accepted. Managers can refuse to accept Internet coupons if the coupon exceeds 50% of the value of the coupon or if the coupons appear invalid.
Store coupons can be found in the weekly inserts and occasionally in coupon booklets found in-store.
Does Safeway Double?
The rules on doubling vary by region. In Texas, double coupons occur everyday. You don’t need a special coupon or ask the cashier. The computers are set up to automatically double. Coupons valued up to $.39 triple and coupons valued $.40-$.50 double.
Other regions have different policies. In the Arizona and Colorado, coupons double up to $.50 and coupons over $.51 will be valued at $1. California stores typically don’t double. In the NW, you can use an in-ad coupon that will allow you to double up to four coupons per transaction. Can I Get Overage?
Safeway’s policy is not to allow overage. If you coupon is more than the total price of the coupon, the cashier should ring at the price of the item. When doubling, the coupon will only double to the value of the product.
Can I Stack Coupons?
Yes, you can use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon on a single item. Just be sure you hand over the manufacturer coupon first.
Does Safeway Accept eCoupons?
Yes, you can use Cellfire, Shortcuts and P&G ecoupons. You load these onto your card online and they come off automatically when you check out. You are not supposed to use these in conjunction with a manufacturer coupon. However, this is difficult to manage because once you load a coupon, you are unable to remove it.
What is Safeway’s Ad Cycle
Ads run Wednesday to Tuesday. Occasionally there will be a special Sunday to Sunday ad featured in the Sunday newspaper. Stores in the Illinois/Wisconsin area run Thursday to Wednesday.
