Frugal Crafting: Fall Wreath

Want to decorate your house for fall on a limited budget? Here’s a cute Fall Wreath for your door that is made with only a few items. The total cost for the wreath pictured above was only $11. Much cheaper than the wreaths you can buy from home decor stores.

Frugal Crafting: Witchkin (Half Witch – Half Pumpkin)

Oh my gosh, how cute is this! Instead of making a jack-o-lantern, you could make a witch using pumpkins. Other than the pumpkins you might have all the other supplies needed around you house. Even if you don’t have a witch’s hat, you could probably find one fairly inexpensively. You could also get your kids involved with the project. Older kids could help carve her face and younger kids could help you dress her.

Frugal Crafting: Pumpkin Place Cards

We’re headed to the Pumpkin Patch today so I thought I’d do a fun fall craft idea for you. If you have any parties coming up this month, try setting the table with these cute pumpkin place cards. They are so easy to make.

Don’t have a party fancy enough for place cards? Use them to label your food dishes. This would be a really cute idea if you were hosting a pot luck.

Frugal Crafting: No Sew Ribbon Pacifier Clip

I’ve got several baby showers to attend this fall. While I enjoy knitting things, it’s a little impractical when I need a large number of gifts because I’m so slow! I saw this and thought, “I can do that!” No sewing is required which makes them pretty easy. Plus, with all the ribbon available these days, you could make some really cute ones!

Frugal Crafting: Monster Bookmarks

Let your kids make some crazy monster bookmarks. Mom or dad may have to help with the cutting so it works right but they can decorate them. While the example suggests using cardstock, I would think you could also use the flat colored foam I’ve seen at craft stores. Using that might make them more durable.

Frugal Crafting: Orchid Wreath

My front door is bare. I could use a wreath but I can never find an inexpensive one that I like. This week, you can learn how to make your own front door wreath using minimal supplies. The example shows orchids but you could use any flower really. Try to pick one that goes with the season and you can switch out wreaths periodically. I think doing one with just leaves would be very pretty for fall.

Frugal Crafting: Bamboo Candles

I love Martha Stewart. I wish I could be even 1/10th as crafty as she is. I’m always excited when I find a craft idea on her website that I think I can actually do! This week, you can try your hand at creating Bamboo candles. It doesn’t look too hard and they’re so pretty!

Frugal Crafting: Chalkboard Frame

This project takes an ordinary frame and transforms it into a chalkboard frame. The picture shows a set of three frames that are hanging but if you would prefer, you could use the same technique and just do one single frame.

Frugal Crafting: Corn Syrup Paintings

Do your kids love to paint but you get tired of buying expensive paints for them to use? This “paint” is simply corn syrup and food coloring. Much cheaper and if they eat it, it’s not the end of the world. You might end up with a sticky table or sticky fingers if your kids aren’t careful so you may want to make this an outside craft or take protective measures.

Make Your Own Birthday Cake

My little brother and I grew up with homemade birthday cakes. I don’t think I had my first store-bought birthday cake until I was in high school. My mom always went to a great deal of trouble but they were basically just sheet cakes.

These days cakes have gotten so fancy! You can have you child’s favorite character iced onto the cake or have it shaped like a car or even look like a princess. It’s quite incredible and expensive! But with a little effort you can make it yourself at home for much, much less.

I know I often find cake mix on sale for $1 or less. Making your own frosting is fairly easy and inexpensive as well. The real trick is making it look like a store bought cake!

My friend Corrie over at Centsable Mama has been baking amazing looking cakes for her boys for years. Her ideas while seemingly extravagant are actually quite simple. Using glass bowls and butter cream transfers she’s been able to pull off some amazing creations. Her kids love them. Neighbors are none-the-wiser and her birthday party budget is in check.
