This next project will be wonderful to make with the kids using their favorite pictures of the family. I like the idea of having another tree to decorate since the Christmas tree is put away. This is smaller and simpler but still something fun to decorate. They could even make and hang little cards to say what they love most about their family.

This next craft will be adorning my refrigerator throughout the year. We love magnets especially ones with hearts. I can’t wait to get the supplies together and get a handful of these made!

Another adorable Valentine tree to make. Even if you don’t have a heart punch, you could cut the hearts out by hand. Make sure you fold the paper in half and cut half of a heart shape (think candy cane shape) My daughter will love to make this and it will be so cute with lots of different sizes of hearts in various colors!

These Valentine’s Day ideas are perfect for spreading the love to everyone around you. Mail some crafts to relatives far away. Save a few for teacher gifts and of course keep some for yourself!

You Make My Heart Glow Valentine

We love Valentines Day but the sugar rush afterward is something I can do without. I thought I’d share one candy-free idea I found. This “You Make My Heart Glow” Valentine is simple and fun.  You’ve probably seen it all over Pinterest but I made a FREE Printable gift tag so it’s easy for you to do on your own.

You can get 15-pack tubes at Target and Dollar Tree so you could do an entire class for $2-$3. Just hole punch the printout and thread your glow stick through. Print on card stock for best results. If you have a much smaller class, hole punch one corner and attach a string. Then tie it to a whole tube of glow sticks. Easy and very inexpensive.

You Make My Heart Glow FREE Printable

Be sure you tune in next week. I’ll be sharing lots more candy-free Valentine ideas and offering another School Valentine idea with a free printable gift tag for you. This one is amazing, trust me.

Oct 222013Halloween Craft: Pipe Cleaner Pumpkin Glasses

Halloween is the perfect time for getting fun and funky! These DIY pipe cleaner pumpkin glasses are a fun and simple craft that allow kids to create something they can wear and get silly with.

As you can see they only require one type of supply, making them a frugal craft as well. You can find pipe cleaners very inexpensively at the Dollar Store and Craft Store. Take a look below and see how easy it is to concoct your own pair of pipe cleaner pumpkin glasses, just in time for the Halloween season!

Halloween Craft: Pipe Cleaner Pumpkin Glasses

Author:
Ingredients
  • Orange Pipe Cleaners
  • Green Pipe Cleaners
  • Purple (or other color) Pipe Cleaners
  • Scissors
Instructions
  1. First, let’s create the lens of the glasses. Take two orange pipe cleaners and loop them into a circle.
  2. Take a short piece pipe cleaner and make a line between the two circles. This will serve as the bridge that rests over the nose. Twist it firmly around the circles to secure it.
  3. Take a green pipe cleaner and bend it into a “V” shape. These will serve as the stems on your pumpkins. Hook the V onto the top of each circle or “pumpkin” and give it a twist to secure it into place. You can also bend or twirl the green pipe cleaners to give them a corkscrew effect.
  4. Can you believe you are already almost done? Now you just need to add the sides of the glasses. Tie a pipe cleaner on to the side of each circle. You will essentially be tying this piece on at 3 o’clock on one and 9 o’clock on the other. This way they are tied on equally on both sides.
  5. You can then secure the glasses on to your child in one of two ways. You can bend the pipe cleaner over their ears, or for a more secure fit, tie the ends of the pipe cleaner around the back of their head. For smaller children, this second option works best.

Your child is now all ready to show off their spooky new glasses! These pipe cleaner pumpkin glasses are fun to make and so easy. Give them a try and see what you can come up with!

Oct 152013Halloween Craft: Monster Stick Puppets

Everyone knows how much children love creative play, which is why this DIY is perfect for doing hours of exactly that. These DIY Monster Stick Puppets are a fun and frugal Halloween season craft that give your kids the chance to stretch their imaginations.

How? Because when they are done creating them they act as stick puppets for finger plays, puppet shows, and more. If you have just a few simple supplies, you have all you need for your own set of monster stick puppets. Take a peek below to see what a cinch they are to make. It truly will feel like some monster magic. A trip to the dollar store or craft store is all you need to find these inexpensive supplies.

Halloween Craft: Monster Stick Puppets

Author:
Ingredients
  • Craft/popsicle sticks
  • Craft glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Green (or color of your choice) craft paint
  • Paint brush
  • Markers
Instructions
  1. Lay the sticks down on a piece of scrap paper to protect your crafting surface. Apply a coat of paint in the color of your choice. For our sample monsters, we used a bright green. However you can use whichever color appeals to you. Apply a second coat if needed and then plenty of dry time.
  2. Next, apply a generous amount of glue to the googly eye. Press the googly eye firmly to the stick and hold it into place. Be sure it is firmly secured before moving on.
  3. You can now add stitches, mouths, and other facial features with your marker. A permanent marker seems to work best. Get creative and have fun with this part. It is what will really give your little puppets character.
  4. Once your puppets are dry, it is time to start having some fun. Put up a sheet or towel as a blanket and have your own puppet show with your puppets being the star. Allow children to write their own scripts, make up fun voices, and develop fun story lines.

These monster stick puppets are so easy to make but can be used in so many ways. Should you get tired of using them as puppets, they also make a great bookmark or plant decoration. Either way, they are a fun and frugal craft you won’t want to skip on this Halloween season.
