My goal for 2009 is to only spend $40 per week at the grocery store and to use that extra savings to grow our emergency fund to six months worth of living expenses.
For 5 weeks in April I spent $168.88 versus a budget of $198.28 ($40 x 5 - $1.72 overage from March). That leaves me an extra $29.40 to carry into May.
Each week you see I list how much I save with coupons. I added that to my spreadsheet so I can see how much I save over a month or year with coupons. In April, I saved $454.10 with coupons and year to date I’ve saved $1063.70. That’s just manufacturer coupons – not Extra Bucks.
So far we have 34% of our goal of 6 months of living expenses. Not as much as I had hoped to have at this point in the year but we are still dilligently saving so I guess I can be proud of that.
That’s my progress. How are you doing with your goals?

good work! you are definitely doing better than me. Somehow the girls keep wanting me to buy them medicine. Buck up girls!
That is awesome! You are doing a great job! =)
My husband got laid off and we wouldn’t make it 6 months without the severance pay he got! He’ll get unemployment benefits too. So we’ll actually make it a pretty long time without a job. But still. It’s so important to save and you are doing an amazing job!
