More About Me
You might think that money saving is in my nature but let me tell you, I love spending money like everyone else! Couponing and finding good deals help me to be able to afford more of the things I refuse to scrimp on, like going on nice vacations or dining out. Everyone has items or areas where they refuse to sacrifice. That’s why I love being frugal! It isn’t about sacrifice. It’s about learning how to maintain your current lifestyle for a lot less.
Why I Started Using Coupons
I’ve been couponing since June of 2008. We were planning a big vacation and were trying to save as much extra money for the trip as possible. I had cut expenses in every area but groceries. I didn’t think I purchased extravagantly so I didn’t think it would be possible to cut in this area. I was shocked when I found I had cut our weekly grocery budget from $150 to $50. Plus, I was buying name brand products, fresh veggies and we were eating healthier because I was cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients.
Why I Keep Using Coupons
Now that we’ve saved and taken our big vacation you may wonder why I keep couponing. Well, when you are saving $100 a week it’s hard to give that up! Plus, it doesn’t take much time and effort. Now that I have the hang of it, I only spend about 30 minutes a week gathering coupons for my shopping trip. I also find my shopping trips take less time because I always shop with a list. But most importantly, I keep doing it because it isn’t a sacrifice. It’s easy and we still get to enjoy nice things.
Why the Blog
My New Year’s resolution for 2009 was to challenge myself to cut our grocery bill from $50 a week down to $40. My goal was to only spend $40 on all food, toiletries, household goods. It includes everything but dog food. Our dog has special dietary needs so I cannot bargain buy dog food. I plan on using my grocery savings to build up a 6-month emergency fund. I started the blog to help keep me accountable.
Now it has evolved into a community where like-minded frugals and newbies can come together. I do my best to provide honest, ethical deals. You will never see anything posted that I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing myself. My goal is to make acheiving a frugal lifestyle easy and fun. One of the easiest ways to learn is to subscribe to my daily digest. You can get it through an RSS reader HERE or emailed straight to you every evening HERE.
I’m so glad you’re here and hope you’ll stick around and save with me!
