I did “super coupons” only tonight plus lunch meat that was marked down to 1.50 each because they can’t be sold tomorrow. I walked in the store, tore out the coupons I needed, checked out and was gone in 45 minutes. I spent $19.81 for 42.84 worth of groceries. I was “saving” $31/hour shopping at Randall’s. Yeah shopping wisely!
I also shopped all the produce sales at Sun Harvest tonight in the same trip wince it’s double ad Wednesday. (I split the time). I spent $28.02 to buy $59.44 worth of produce in 45 minutes. In that trip I was saving $42/hour.
My average this month since I started tracking time is that I’m saving an average of $21 per hour shopping. The highest rate trip was actually Sun Harvest tonight, and the lowest rate trip was my first trip to Walgreen’s this week with all the coupon match-ups and the complicated Kellogs and Unilever deals. I did better on a second trip today when I used the $5/$25 coupon. Hourly savings rate was only $11 for that first trip (but was $35/hour when I streamlined it today). And my first trip to CVS was also low with the searching for the exact items with ECB and the coupon match-ups. I saved a slightly higher hourly rate of $14/hour there.
Just something to think about as I balance couponing and savings. Go for the maximum impact with the limited time and energy.
