If you are just joining us, welcome to Spring Cleaning for Less. I’m helping you use items around your house so you don’t have to buy expensive cleaners.
I’m sure lots of you read my post last week and use vinegar as a fabric softener now. But for those of you who use dryer sheets, don’t throw them away when they come out of the dryer. Start saving them. Get the full bang for your buck. The used ones have lots of uses around your house.
Clean up Spills!
You can use them to easily wipe up powder, sawdust flour and other similar messes. The used sheets still contain some of the fabric softner in them and powdery residues stick to them instead of your counter or floor!
Polish Chrome!
These little sheets work magic on chrome. You can use them to shine your bathroom and kitchen faucets. Don’t forget your car. They can clean the chrome on your vehicle too. One little sheet can result in a lot of shine!
Freshen Up!
Pop one of the used sheets in your vacuum cleaner bag. There’s enough scent left in them to freshen your house while you vacuum. Have a fancy bagless vacuum? Stuff the sheets in tennis shoes, closets, laundry hampers, luggage, drawers…anywhere that needs a little freshening!
Scrub the Scum!
If you have a glass shower door and soap residue like me you are constantly scrubbing soap scum. Use a dryer sheet to scrub it away and eliminate the mess. Now if only they would get rid of my hard water spots too!
Dust!
Do you use paper towels to dust with? Switch to dryer sheets. They are perfect for dusting wooden furniture. You can also wipe down your window blinds with them. The anti-static agents repel dirt and dust.
I got tons of flushable Scrubbing Bubbles wipes for free at Walgreens a while back. Whenever I finish off one of the canisters, I wash it out, dry it and stuff it with used dryer sheets. Then they are ready to go whenever I need one and store away easily.
Do you use dryer sheets in an unconventional way? Please share!

They’re also good for scrubbing the scum out of your pots and pans! If there’s something you’ve cooked that you can’t get out of your skillet… use a dryer sheet!
I always tear my in half when I put them in the dryer, only use 1/2 a sheet at a time.
We use them to freshen up the cats and dog. A used sheet has just enough to elimanate that ‘wet dog smell’, but not enough to irritate them.
I rub them on my hair to get rid of
frizz. Also makes your hair smell good.
I will save 2 or 3 used sheets and then toss em all in the dryer to use the second time around
Thank you for the great tips!!!
Wow! I never knew…I just threw 4 away today when I folded my laundry. thanks for the tips. Love ‘em.
They are great to polish my sterling silver earrings. I dust with them, especially the TV and other electronics. They help repel dust.
Going outside? Stuff one in your pocket to repel mosquitoes. I use to scrunch one up under my daughter’s barette to keep them away from her. Mosquitoes are attracted to her like a magnet.
Have a pet? Wipe them down when they are a little smelly and you don’t have time for bathing them.
Put in the bottom of a vase or inconspicuious spot to give a soft scent in a room – use a new one. Lingerie drawer, inside luggage, under a trash can liner, a couple in the closet.
Eh, I’m old. I’ve been a dryer sheet queen for a long time. Enjoy!
